Early voting began last Saturday for the 2025 New York Democratic Party Primary election and will last through Sunday June 22 with Election Day on Tuesday June 24.

I spoke with incumbent NYC District 5 Council Member Julie Menin several weeks ago about Roosevelt Island and other district wide issues including congestion pricing, NYC Sanctuary City policies and public safety issues..
Ms Menin attended the Sunday June 8 Rally in Support of Roosevelt Island Tram Boarding priority preference for residents and workers. Ms Menin told the rally that she has arranged a meeting between residents and Governor Hochul’s office to discuss the issue.
Political newcomer Collin Thompson is challenging Ms Menin to represent Roosevelt Island and the Upper East Side in NYC Council District 5. I spoke with Mr Thompson March 22 at the Roosevelt Island Farmers Market.
During the May 29 Roosevelt Island Residents Association NYC Council Candidate’s evening attended by Mr Thompson and the unopposed Republican Candidate Alina Bonsell, I asked Mr Thompson about congestion pricing, sanctuary city policy and public safety issues.
Also on the Roosevelt Island Democratic Party Primary ballot are 76 AD Part A Democratic Party District Leaders Rebecca Weintraub and Ben Akselrod opposed by challenger Todd Stein.
