Are you interested in Democratic Party politics and wish to meet like minded folks? If yes, the Four Freedoms Democratic Club is hosting its annual Roosevelt Island meeting 7 PM Thursday September 18, at the Good Shepherd Church (543 Main Street). and you’re invited.
According to the Four Freedoms Democratic Club:
Councilmember Julie Menin will join us, and the meeting will put a special focus on all-things-Roosevelt Island, including the big issue of resident access to the Tram.
Post-Meeting Social: Please join us at Granny Annie’s (425 Main St.) after the meeting!
Also on the Agenda: The Rule of Law Working Group recently put forth a resolution in support of the MELT (Mandating End of Lawless Tactics) Act, which would prohibit law enforcement (i.e., ICE) from hiding their identity while acting in their official capacities. The measure is being carried by State Sen. Patricia Fahy and Assembly Member Tony Simone.
The Four Freedoms Board endorsed passage of this resolution, and there will be a presentation about it for full club approval at this meeting.
More info on the 4 Freedoms Democratic Club available at their website.
In response to my question last June, Council Member Menin reported:
… We met with the Governor’s Office on Monday to discuss solutions to the ongoing tram boarding delays affecting Roosevelt Island residents. The Governor’s Office explained that RIOC’s interpretation of state law prevents the implementation of priority boarding for commuters.
However, they were receptive to the idea of a general pass, available to anyone willing to visit the Island to obtain one. This Roosevelt Island pass will receive serious consideration from the Governor’s Office.
They support a solution that does not depend on specific classifications, such as priority status, but instead offers streamlined boarding to anyone with a pass.
The Governor’s Office will consult with the council to ensure this approach aligns with existing agreements with the City and the MTA. I am encouraged by their willingness to consider this solution and look forward to resolving the issue before the start of the school year in September….
Hopefully, Ms Menin will have some info on the Roosevelt Island Tram Pass at the September 18 Four Freedoms Democratic Club meeting here on Roosevelt Island.
UPDATE 9/20 – There was no new information about the Roosevelt Island Tram pass at the meeting.
