The Roosevelt Island Operating Corp (RIOC) reports:

Dear Roosevelt Island Community,

 The Manhattan District Attorney’s Office, State Senator Liz Krueger, the New York Public Library and PSD will be hosting a special Domestic Violence Resource Fair Wednesday, November 5th from 5:00 PM to 7:30 PM at the Roosevelt Island Library (504 Main Street). 

Join the Manhattan District Attorney’s Office for a discussion on Domestic Violence, followed by a community fair to connect New Yorkers with available resources.

During the October 15 RIOC Public Safety Department (PSD) Community Engagement meeting, PSD Chief Kevin Brown reported:

… we have a high number of assaults. Out of the 31 crimes in the entire year that we have in the community, 23 of them are for assault. And out of the 23 of those crimes, 20 of them are the domestic violence….

Chief Brown also discussed a variety of Roosevelt Island Public Safety issues including:

  • PSD Bike Patrol, 16 Officers have completed training and 2 officers are on bike patrol every single day.
  • Traffic, delivery and crosswalk safety,
  • De-escalation training for PSD officers,
  • Complaints at 460 Riverwqlk Park building reduced over several years from 100 a month to 20 after bringing in social services agency Broken Ground for assistance,
  • Upcoming PSD/FDNY Pickleball Tournament,
  • PSD/RIOC Vehicles driving on sidewalk near Blackwell and Lighthouse Park,
  • PSD Officers learning about Roosevelt Island History,
  • There has not been any ICE activity on Roosevelt Island,
  • State Police enforcing Fishing regulations,
  • among other issues.
