East River Sailboat Hits Roosevelt Island Bridge This Evening And Gets Stuck – No Injuries Reported

A sailboat on the East River hit the Roosevelt Island Bridge this evening about 8 PM.

So my @nycferry home had to turn around because of the sailboat that wedged itself under the Roosevelt Island Bridge. Good luck to all the first responders figuring this one out… pic.twitter.com/iFOiF5JZpP

The Sailboat Mast hit the bottom the Roosevelt Island Bridge roadway causing traffic disruptions for about 30 minutes. No injuries were reported. The NYPD Harbor Patrol, FDNY and Coast Guard were on the scene.

Apparently a sailboat wedged itself into the bridge. How exactly did that happen? #rooseveltisland

According to the Roosevelt Island Operating Corp ( RIOC ):

Due to NYPD AND FDNY activity in the water and on the 36th AVE Bridge, traffic leaving the island was temporarily delayed.

Traffic resumed to normal conditions at this time.
