Roosevelt Island Historical Society (RIHS) President Judy Berdy publishes a very interesting and informative daily newsletter.

Ms Berdy reprorts:

It started in April of 2020.  With not much else to do during the pandemic, I decided to publish articles on Roosevelt Island history and other subjects.  Using Mailchimp was foreign to me and getting used to it was a challenge.

I have plenty of Island history in my house, since there are over 200 binders of documents and materials in my living room.

(The rest is in our office in the Octagon).

Basic history of the island turned into City history and other subjects. Finding material was easy with sources such as the Smithsonian Museum, Wikipedia, NYC Municipal Archives, New York Almanack and so many other on-line resources.  Many museums and art galleries provides information that lead to articles on more artists.

I do not concentrate on island subjects and avoid our controversial topics. leaving that to the journalists.  Suggestions are always welcome.

Every issue is published daily on our website  www.rihs.us.  You can pick a month and go thru the issues until a topic interests you.  To date there are 1423 issues to choose from.

To subscribe to FROM THE ARCHIVES, Contact Us and we will add you to our list.

Most weeks there are issues 4 or 5 days.  I recently took a month off to have surgery.  The first morning home, I was at the computer and feeling back to normal.

One goal is to organize and catalog all the subjects for easier searching.  Interested, just contact me.
