A tipster reported that gunshots were heard on Roosevelt Island early this morning.

I asked Roosevelt Island Operating Corp (RIOC) Public Safety Department Chief Kevin Brown:

A resident says that gunshots were reportedly fired early this Saturday morning about 1:45 am.

Do you have any info on whether this is true or not?

Any statement from RIOC on what, if anything, happened?

According to RIOC Communications Director Bryant Daniels:

At approximately 1:30AM, PSD responded to a report of shots fired at the bottom of the Helix, in front of 2-4 River Road. There were no injuries, and no arrests were made as two suspects fled the scene. NYPD arrived at the scene at approximately 2:00AM, at which time PSD provided all pertinent information regarding the incident to them. This is now an NYPD investigation; no firearms were recovered at the scene.

A NYPD spokesperson said the bullets were fired from 515 Main Street location

and that ballistics were recovered.

  1. 515 Main Street is relatively far from the Helix AKA across from 2-4 River Road? How is there such a discrepancy between RIOC/PSD and NYPD, especially considering that the latter got their info from the former?
Where, exactly, were the ballistics recovered from?

  2. Did the NYPD make a mistake about the number? There doesn’t seem to be a 515. Subway (restaurant) is at 513. Space next to it is vacant but doesn’t have a number. Next address moving in that direction is Island Om at 521.

If someone fired shots from an unoccupied store that would be big news!

  3. Follow up on this story would be appreciated. I think we’d all like to know where this actually happened since, as pointed out in other comments, the address given doesn’t seem to exist – and if it does, it is nowhere near the helix as was also mentioned.
