Here’s the view seen today of the new Roosevelt Island Riverwalk Commons East extension public area located between Riverwalk Park (building #8) and the recently opened Riverwalk Heights (building 9).

You can see the outline of new Dog Run next to the Queens side of the river, 2 Giant Swings adjacent to Main Street facing the River, several benches and what looks like picnic tables. Will update when scheduled completion date is known.

According to comments on the Roosevelt Islander Instagram page:

  • Thank God it’s not another building 🙏
  • This is exciting news 🙂 I am wondering if the benches are permanently in place? (facing the common green/ swings ) or do we think they will turn them around to face the water?

Here’s what the Riverwalk Commons and Commons East extension construction site looked like June 24.

and last February.

  1. … With the anticipation for our new Common East Green space, I have noticed what appears to be a “stop in progression/work” based on my observations in the last 3 weeks. Typically this happens when a place is issued a stop order, I hope this isn’t the case. I am optimistic that there is a good reason why there hasn’t been progression in the last 3 weeks. Do we have any updates? Greatly appreciate!

    1. I’ve noticed the work has stopped recently too. I’m told there is some issue with the MTA since the Commons is directly over the subway tunnel. Trying to find out exactly what is the problem.
