As reported last May:

NYC Buildings Dep’t July 2024 Emergency Order To Demolish The Roosevelt Island Steam Plant

What Is The Emergency And Why Has it Taken NYC HPD So Long To Begin The Demolition

We’ll learn more about the future of the Steam Plant demolition at the October 15 meeting.

Here’s a 2013 look inside the Roosevelt Island Steam Plant.

Take a look at this 2012 Steam Plant Dance shown as part of a Gallery RIVAA exhibit promoting the adaptive reuse of the Steam Plant as a Museum of Technology Art and Science. According to statement accompanying video on Vimeo:

This short film was prepared for the MOTAAS exhibit at Gallery RIVAA on Roosevelt Island, NY. It premiered at the opening reception of the MOTAAS exhibit on Saturday, September 22, 2012

MOTAAS is the vision of Tad Sudol, and the exhibit communicates his vision of a Museum Of Technology Art And Science (MOTAAS) – an arts space to be set in the old steam plant on Roosevelt Island.

Inspired by a dance event at the Tate Modern, Tad encouraged dancers to perform and interact in the Steam Plant Space. This film captures their interactions with the future MOTAAS and “choreographs” a free form interplay with the working steam plant.

Thanks to Tad Sudol for additional video clip and still image used in the film
