The Roosevelt Island Disabled Association (RIDA) hosted their annual community Thanksgiving Dinner Wednesday November 19 at Nisi Bistro. According to RIDA President Wendy Hersh:

This is our annual Thanksgiving dinner. We decided to have it at Nisi and thanks to Alex {Nisi owner Alex Razaghi}, he allowed us to close the restaurant. We have 95 people that we’re serving. We have five home bound people we’re delivering to.

He made a delicious meal.

This is a little different from our other annual Thanksgiving meals because what we did was we wanted to thank a lot of people including Alex, … that have supported us all since Covid. RIOC is here L&M is here, Carter Burden’s here. Audrey Tannon’s here. Carolyn Marco from Evangel Church. All these people have supported us and we really wanted to thank the community and these organizations and agencies for all they’ve done for us….

… Happy Thanksgiving.

Last Friday, the RIDA Free Food Pantry served 270 people at the Roosevelt Island Cultural Center (548 Main Street). The line to enter the Food Pantry stretched from the Cultural Center entrance through the Courtyard to the East River Promenade. Ms Hersh reported:

Our freezers are empty. Hope to get more food next week.

The every other Friday RIDA free food pantry typically serves 200-225 people.

Happy Thanksgiving.
