As reported January 27:

Roosevelt Island residents are increasingly frustrated finding the doors to our our local US Post Office often closed during hours when the Post Office should be open.

I’ve been told by Post Office staff they close at times because they are severely understaffed….

Last week, Congressman Jerry Nadler’s office told me:

… We are working on getting clarification on what exactly is going on and making inquiries to the USPS. We will update you once we receive an answer to get the word out to Roosevelt Island residents.

Ruthanne Thongkai, press secretary for Congressman Nadler. reports today:

The offices of Representative Nadler and State Senator Liz Krueger can report that on Friday there was a new employee at the Roosevelt Island Post Office who has worked there previously and returned. The employee said there are now 3 people posted there and he hopes to be “re-certified” to do passports so they can resume at the branch.

  1. Was in line on Friday for around 30mins to send two items.
Only 4 people in front of me.

Why so slow ? Supposedly no supervisor on site to process more complex services.

I was staring at the ceiling, the walls and counters. Zero effort at maintenance when you have a good look around, unless that means patching everything together with tape. (speaking of which no rolls of tape available to buy, display was empty)

Morale when you look at your work surroundings ? Not sure how the staff there feel, but the place looks terrible to work in, as a customer it’s sad to see these conditions.
