Long Time Roosevelt Island Resident & Scoutmaster Geoffrey David Kerr Passed Away Last Week At 89 Years Of Age

Long time Roosevelt Island resident Geoffrey David Kerr has passed away. His daughter Karen Kerr Stone shares the news:
Geoffrey David Kerr, aka Mr. Kerr, died Thursday, March 19th, 2026, peacefully at home in Island House, where he had lived since 1977. He was 89 years old. He is survived by his wife, Flo, and his children, Andrew and Karen and their families including five grandchildren.
He found a true home in this island community and gave back in so many ways. He was Mr. Kerr, Scoutmaster for Boy Scout Toop 59 for 30 years.
It was the highlight of his life. As an accountant by training with a career in finance, he also enjoyed volunteering to do taxes for seniors every year at the Senior Center. Geof was integral to the conversion process for Island House to Coop from 2005 to 2015 and served as the first CFO of the new coop board. He was a trustworthy and responsible man of integrity, a loyal friend you could count on and a family man.
In his later years, you might have seen him riding around the island on his electric trike.
He was an Englishman in New York, and he made a home on Roosevelt Island for 49 years. He will be missed dearly by his family. We have decided to have a memorial for Geoffrey D. Kerr of 555 Island House, who died this past Thursday, March 19th peacefully at home. Please join us this Saturday at the Good Shepherd Church, 543 Main St at 10am. We welcome any stories and memories for a memorial book for our families. Mr. Kerr was a true gem. When the cat rescue organization Island Cats needed a place to temporarily hold stray cats we’d trapped for the TNR (trap, neuter, release) program, he as Scout Master allowed us to use their meeting space.
Mr. Kerr was a great neighbor in Island House, with a wry sense of English humor and a heart to serve.
May he rest in peace and may his family be comforted.
Your dad was a friend and the provider of Christmas trees and wreaths through the Scouts for many years. When I was president of the Roosevelt Island Residents Association he volunteered his services to audit our treasury (when we had one) and kept our 501(c)4 honest. I will miss him.
