The NY Public Library (NYPL) Roosevelt Island branch (504 Main Street) is hosting a very interesting program Wednesday May 6 starting at 6:30 PM presented by resident Susheel Kurien.

According to the Roosevelt Island NYPL:

Join Susheel Kurien for an immersive deep dive into the transformative power of performance. In this guided listening session, we explore how a single melody evolves from its theatrical roots into a masterpiece of modern improvisation. Through curated clips and shared dialogue, we will discover how the world’s greatest artists “steal” a melody and make it entirely their own.

Whether you are a seasoned aficionado or a curious newcomer, come learn the art of active listening and witness the living history of jazz.

Susheel Kurien brings many years of mindful listening and living the jazz experience as jazz documentarian (film and writing), a jazz historian, and, most importantly, a musician in perpetual respect of this great American music.

Susheel Kurien was among the ensemble of talented musicians playing smooth melodies and soulful rhythms at the NYPL Roosevelt Island branch Jazz In The Garden outdoor patio last Saturday afternoon

to the delight of those in the audience.

Jazz In The Garden will be back at the Roosevelt Island library but we don’t have a new date yet. Stay tuned.
