The Roosevelt Island Operating Corp (RIOC) Board of Directors will meet Thursday May 14 in the Good Shepherd Community Center (543 Main Street) beginning at 5:30 PM.

You’re invited to attend, ask questions and share concerns about Roosevelt Island during the opening Public Session before the start of the RIOC Board meeting. Sign up to speak here before 10 AM of the meeting day.
Among the items on the May 14 RIOC Board meeting agenda is the hiring of Lance Polivy as the new General Counsel:
Appointment of Lance A. Polivy to the Position of General Counsel and Secretary/Vice President for Legal Affairs of the Corporation (Board Action Required)
There were rumors being spread today that Lance Polivy was a family member of RIOC Board Director Howard Polivy.
I asked Howard Polivy and RIOC if there was a family relationship with Lance Polivy and what role, if any, Howard Polivy had in the hiring process for the General Counsel position.
RIOC Assistant Vice President Of Communications & Government Affairs Bryant Daniels replied:
Lance was selected based on his extensive legal experience, strong professional qualifications, and demonstrated ability to serve the Corporation in this role. While he shares a last name and a very distant family connection with Howard Polivy, they are not considered “relatives” under the Public Officers Law and do not have a personal relationship. We are confident Lance’s expertise, and leadership will be a tremendous asset to RIOC and the Roosevelt Island community.
According to the NY State Legislative Ethics Commission:
… Pursuant to Public Officers Law §73(1)(m), “[t]he ‘relative’ of any individual shall mean any person living in the same household as the individual and any person who is a direct descendant of that individual’s grandparents or the spouse of such descendant…
Here is the resolution in support of appointing Lance Polivy as RIOC General Counsel.
Also on the Agenda is RIOC’s ratification of certain documents involved in the refinancing of the mortgage on the Octagon residential building.
