According to the Roosevelt Island Operating Corp (RIOC) Instagram page:

Join RIOC, Leitner-POMA, and RIHS in celebrating the Tram’s 50th Anniversary with a special event at the Tramway Plaza.

For more than a decade, two original Roosevelt Island Tram cabins have sat beneath the Motorgate Helix, forgotten and falling apart.

As we mark fifty years, we want to change that — and we want your ideas. Public art? A community space? Something nobody’s thought of yet? Residents, artists, historians, anyone who loves the Island: tell us what these cabins should become.

Got an idea? Let us know

Roosevelt Island Historical Society (RIHS) President Judy Berdy shows us the original cabins behind a fence beneath the Motorgate Helix:

The RIHS invites everyone:

CELEBRATE THE TRAM’S 50TH BIRTHDAY
THURSDAY, MAY 28TH
TRAM PLAZA 3 P.M.  ALL ARE WELCOME!!

and shares photos from the original 1976 Tram Opening celebration invitation.

According to RIHS President Judy Berdy:

A Boarding Pass for Opening Day

I has watched Welfare Island for many years since I was a student working at the Goldwater Hospital in 1967.  When I heard the Tram was opening, I walked over from my home at 65th Street on the evening of May 17th, 1976 and took my first ride that day

The Roosevelt Islander website and Instagram page have comments suggesting some interesting ideas for the original Tram Cabins. Take a look.
