The Roosevelt Island North Tram cabin has been out of service since last Friday with only the South cabin operating over the weekend. Today I asked the Roosevelt Island Operating Corp (RIOC) if both Tram cabins will be operating for Monday’s rush hour service.
According to a RIOC Advisory sent this evening:
Please be advised that POMA has informed RIOC that service on the North Tram Cabin will not be restored in time for tomorrow morning’s rush-hour commute. The South Cabin remains in service, operating on a 15-minute schedule.
Travelers are encouraged to plan accordingly and consider alternative transportation options, including the subway and ferry, when planning their commute. Riders can also check the Tram station live-feed cameras for current station conditions before beginning their trip: https://www.rioc.ny.gov/
community/transportation/tram We apologize for the ongoing inconvenience and appreciate your patience. We are pressing POMA to resolve this issue as quickly as possible and restore full service when it is safe to do so.
RIOC Assistant Vice President Communications & Government Affairs Bryant Daniels adds:
POMA has informed us the North Cabin will remain offline through Monday morning rush hour service. They are trouble shooting a computer issue associated with a recent bullwheel liner replacement and require further assistance from POMA France. The South Cabin will remain in service while the North Cabin is down.
“Needless to say, we are incredibly disappointed with the length of this unplanned outage, which will soon extend to its fourth day. We are continuing to push POMA hard to remedy the issue. This is neither the service we expect nor what the community deserves.
