The Architect’s Newspaper reported yesterday on a new play titled Skyscraper which begins with the audience sharing a ride with the actors on the Roosevelt Island Tram as the cabin makes its way over the East River to Roosevelt Island and then walking to nearby Firefighters Field.

Georgica Pettus’s new play Skyscraper, which revolves around a real-time trip on the Roosevelt Island Tramway, explores this double-consciousness through three separate metaphors, which are its main characters. Jordan Wright (Zachary Zamsky) is a land use lawyer whose work/life balance resembles that of someone from Severance. Proudly espousing bland liberal takes, he is quietly devoting his life to the privatization of public resources for luxury development. His seemingly one-dimensional girlfriend Eliza (Pettus) strives to appease him by repressing her bisexuality. Together, they take a ride (next on July 24 and 25 at 9 p.m., with a potential extended run into August; send a DM to ACOMPI on Instagram to inquire about availability) via cable car to Firefighters Field, where Jordan plans to propose on the site of a new luxury development he’s just cleared for rezoning. On the field, they run into Claire (Sharleen Chidiac), who lives on the island but works at the same law firm as Jordan. Off the clock, she has been petitioning against the development of the field…
