The Roosevelt Island community celebrated National Night Out with law enforcement last night at Good Shepherd Plaza. According to Roosevelt Island Operating Corp (RIOC) Public Safety Department Chief Kevin Brown:

National Night Out is a tradition in law enforcement. It’s been going on for many, many years. It is a night that the law enforcement can get out and interact with the community. Show the community our appreciation for what they do. In the name of community policing, be together and show the community that we are one and that we are together….

… it’s one of my favorite days. My officers are serving the people. They give them snacks, we have ice cream, we have popcorn. We just want the the community to know that we are here for them. We even involve the pets on the Island. We want to keep our pets safe. We want to educate our Island about about pet safety and and cleaning up after their pets….

I spoke with PSD Chief Brown, PSD Inspector Suarez and volunteer resident Frank Farance yesterday at the Roosevelt Island National Night Out.
