The Roosevelt Island Operating Corp (RIOC) Board of Directors will meet Thursday January 22 in the Good Shepherd Community Center (543 Main Street) beginning at 5:30 PM.
You’re invited to attend, ask questions and share concerns about Roosevelt Island during the opening Public Session before the start of the RIOC Board meeting. Sign up to speak here before 10 AM of the meeting day.
Among the items on the Agenda are:
Authorization to Enter into Contract with New Flyer Industries Limited for the Purchase of a Hybrid Bus Model XDE40 (Board Action Required)
and an Executive Session, closed to the public, to discuss:
a. the proposed acquisition, sale or lease of real property
b. proposed, pending or current litigation
Do not know what either of these two items are about.
If approved at the RIOC Board meeting, Roosevelt Island will be getting a new Red Bus.

According to a January 14, 2026 memo from RIOC Chief Operating Officer Mary Cunneen to RIOC President B.J. Jones:
… we recommend that the Board of Directors authorize the purchase of one (1) Xcelsior XDE40 hybrid bus from New Flyer of America for $1,005,706, a 5% contingency of $50,285 and 25% tariff of $251,427 for the total cost of $1,307,418.

What’s happening with the AVAC system?? It’s been out for about a month in my building and no updates, NADA on when it’s back online
