There was a fire this morning on Roosevelt Island at Manhattan Park’s 40 River Road that brought a huge response by the NYC Fire Department (FDNY).
The very large response of FDNY firefighters, vehicles and EMT’s to the scene frightened many onlookers worried about the building residents.
Fortunately the large FDNY response looked worse than it was.
A FDNY official on site said it was a kitchen fire in an apartment on the 12th floor, nobody was home at the time, there were no injuries and the large number of FDNY vehicles and personnel responding is standard for hi-rise fires.
The cause of the fire is being investigated.

Another 20+ fire dept. vehicles came across the bridge from Queens at 8:15 p.m. tonight. Some went to the Octagon; some went to the Fire Dept. building; some went south. By 8:55 p.m., they were leaving. Any idea what this was about?
