Several residents have noticed and asked why the No Dogs or Pets allowed on the Rivercross lawn signage

is now gone.

According to one resident:
Do you know anything about the signs saying pets/dogs not allowed on Rivercross lawn being removed? I just noticed today that two signs on the east side of lawn are no longer there. Has the policy changed?
I saw a dog defecating on the lawn yesterday, after my 3 year old was running barefoot on the lawn on Thursday…not happy about this!
There’s nothing quite like that squishy feeling on your feet when you step in dog poop, even worse when barefoot.
I asked RIOC Communications Director Bryant Daniels yesterday:
Is the Rivercross lawn RIOC or the building’s responsibility. I’ve gotten several messages complaining about the NO Dogs sign on Rivercross Lawn being removed. Any comment from RIOC?
Mr Daniels replied:
We received a few complaints about the signs being tripping hazards given their location and small size. We’re looking to relocate them to a spot that’s still visually prominent without getting in the way.
A No Pets Sign was clearly visible on the north side of Rivercross Lawn adjacent to the building. Be careful you don’t trip on it.

There will be a new Dog Run opening soon when the construction of Riverwalk Commons East is completed.
The Riverwalk Commons East Dog Run will have separate areas for large and small dogs and be located in the area closest to the East River

I saw frequent use of lawn by dog walker or owners on lawns with signs that is forbidden for dogs and nobody from NYPS reacted. Why? Penalties need to be issued.
Shooting all the geese would make more sense than the perpetual dog kvetching.
Goose poop outnumbers dog poop on the island by a factor of 200 to 1. If people really want to complain about something, that’s it.
There are no owners to those geese but the dogs have owners who reside on the island and should be inclined to obey the rules
We all live in a society that wants nice and happy people and not rule breakers
I disagree with Matthew. The geese are not on a leash held by an owner who can control the actions of the pet, allegedly. Signs don’t matter. People allow animals to poop in the middle of the sidewalk, over gratings, lawns, playing fields, tree pits, wherever, leaving residue in many cases when an attempt to remove is made. Or why make the attempt. Leave it.
Whatever happened to Curb Your Dog?
This used to be Tree City, now it’s Dog Poop City.
Shoot the geese?
Removing the geese will only bring more geese to replace them. Additionally, geese droppings are purely digested vegetable matter. You may not like the look, but it sure beats dog poop! Isn’t it a lot easier to just be a responsible dog owner and bring your dog to the curb and then scoop it up?
Yeah. These hysterics are what I’m talking about. Uninformed and factually baseless attacks. Nobody takes a Karen seriously.
I doubt sign was removed because guidance/regulation no longer applied. I believe it’s a safety/ADA compliance issue. It’s a safety hazard because it is a sharps issue, including a hidden hazard, especially under snow. Likewise, the sign itself is at the wrong height – too small that it might not be discovered by a walking stick for a blind/low-vision user (the mounting post needs to be 34-38 inches high, i.e., the handrail height) and too small for a mounted sign (at least 48 inches for both sighted and braille users). Also, you’ll need an 18×18-inch square of blank floor space in front of the sign so users can read it. Hopefully they will return a proper sign, placement, and mounting.
