According to Roosevelt Island Tram Operator Leitner Poma of America:
The Roosevelt Island Operating Corporation (RIOC), in partnership with Leitner‑Poma of America (LPOA), is launching a new series of short video profiles that spotlight the employees who keep the Roosevelt Island Tram running every day….
Through brief interviews and personal storytelling, the videos offer viewers a behind-the-scenes look at the human side of tram operations—introducing the operators, mechanics, and support staff whose passion, expertise, and dedication ensure the Tram operates safely, reliably, and on schedule. Each profile highlights the unique background and perspective each team member brings to one of New York City’s most iconic transportation systems.
“These videos give our riders a chance to meet the people behind the scenes who take tremendous pride in their work,” said B.J. Jones, President and CEO of RIOC. “The Tram is more than infrastructure—it’s a daily connection for our community, made possible by an incredible team.”
The employee profile videos will roll out across RIOC’s social media channels over the coming weeks, offering riders and Tram enthusiasts a deeper appreciation for the individuals who power this essential link between Roosevelt Island and Manhattan. The videos can also be viewed on the Leitner-Poma of America Instagram page @leitner_poma_of_america.
RIOC adds:
We’re kicking off our new Roosevelt Island Tram employee video series with Darren McCarthy, Operations Manager of the Tram. In this first video, Darren introduces the series and speaks to the incredible team whose dedication, skill, and teamwork keep the Tram running safely and reliably every day. This series is about more than operations—it’s about the people who make one of New York City’s most iconic transportation systems possible.

Love the tram as my daily work commute and the Poma staff are awesome.
We will leave out the financial discussions re running costs/fare collection/tourists etc but am hoping Poma and RIOC could make the following improvements.
1. Install bird deterrent materials to the tram stations. The amount of bird guano at each station is unhealthy for all and unsightly.
2. Power wash the stations twice a year and do some basic beautification/maintenance to what is a unique form of travel in NYC.
