Roosevelt Island New York Public Library Branch Manager Kate Federiconi reports:

Dear Roosevelt Island Community,

I hope you’re all staying warm and enjoying the recent snow! It’s been a busy start to the year, and we are thrilled to share the vibrant lineup of programming coming to the Roosevelt Island Library this February.

As we move further into 2026, our goal remains to provide fresh, engaging, and accessible resources for all our neighbors. From interactive children’s programs to versatile teen initiatives and adult enrichment, there is truly something for everyone. As always, all programs are free and open to the public.

February At-A-Glance

  • New Programming: We are expanding our offerings across all age groups this month.
  • Holiday Closure: Please note the library will be closed on Monday, February 16th for Presidents’ Day.
  • Full Program Guide: I have attached the complete February schedule for your reference. This document includes clickable links to each event’s page on the NYPL website for easy registration (when required) and sharing.

How You Can Help

We would love your support in spreading the word to your networks! Below are a few highlights led by our team that we’re particularly excited about. Feel free to include these in your newsletters or community boards.

ADULT Programs

  • Saturday, February 7: Reading Circle
    • The NEW Roosevelt Island Reading Circle is a community-driven program designed to make the joy of reading accessible to everyone. From younger readers and English language learners to lifelong bibliophiles, our sessions offer a supportive space to explore literature and build literacy confidence together through Guided Read-Alouds featuring short stories and poetry.

Join us as we foster a vibrant local culture of literacy while building meaningful connections among our neighbors. Whether you’re picking up a book for the first time or the thousandth, the Reading Circle invites you to share your voice, improve your skills, and discover new worlds.

  • Wednesday, February 25: Every Happiness: An Author Talk with Reena Shah
    • Join us for an author talk with Reena Shah about her debut novel, Every Happiness. Experience the story of two girls whose friendship endures across continents, family expectations, and hidden secrets. Shah will discuss her writing process, the cultural and emotional layers of the novel, and her experiences as a writer, editor, and teacher. The program will include a reading by the author, followed by a Q&A.
  • Saturday, February 28: Sober Saturday Karaoke
    • Come and sing your favorite songs. Whether you are an experienced singer or new to karaoke, all are welcome to participate!

TEEN Programs

  • Wednesday, February 4 & 18: Crochet Circle
    • ADULTS, TWEENS, & TEENS! Join us for an hour of fun, while we crochet, knit, sew, and more! Bring your own supplies, or use ours! (Limited Supplies)
  • Saturday, February 21: You Got Any Games?
    • TWEENS & TEENS! Join us, once a month, for an hour of games, SNACKS, and FUN!

CHILDREN’S Programs

  • Saturday, February 7: Fairy Tale Fun
    • Join Ms. Eve on a storytelling journey to Cuba! This month, we’re reading Martina the Beautiful Cockroach, a charming Cuban folktale retold by Carmen Agra Deedy. Perfect for curious readers aged 5–12.
  • Friday, February 27: BLAST OFF! Astronaut Training
    • Join us for an interactive program that combines physical exercises, space history, and storytelling to inspire children. Trainees participate in challenges and a dance party while learning about pioneers like Dr. Mae Jemison through the empowering “astronaut creed.”

Thank you for your continued partnership in keeping Roosevelt Island a curious and connected community. We look forward to seeing you at the branch soon!

Ms Federiconi told the February 2, 2026 Community Board 8 Roosevelt Island Committee meeting that the NY Times is now available online for free at the Library.
