Roosevelt Island Tipsters reported this afternoon:
Streets are blocked. PSD, people in suits and an ambulance waiting …… … Someone jumped from Queensboro Bridge between 5:05- 5:35 by the ferry.

The Roosevelt Island Operating Corp (RIOC) sent out an email advisory reporting:
Due to ongoing police activity, East Main Street—from the Tram Plaza to North Loop Road—remains closed to both vehicle and pedestrian traffic. We apologize for the inconvenience and will reopen the street as soon as possible. Thank you for your understanding.
The police activity was due to a woman who jumped from the Queensboro bridge hitting the concrete pavement next to East River behind fenced off area south of the the Roosevelt Island ferry dock. The woman died.

The Twitterverse reported:

Dear God. And onto the pavement. She really did want to end her life; at least just before she jumped. With things like this you wonder, if she’d thought just 30 seconds more before releasing herself, would she have changed her mind. Poor, poor woman to be so sad. And now, poor, poor family.
