The Roosevelt Island FDR Four Freedoms Park is holding a Sketching Contest.
Sketch 4 Freedom
Four Freedoms Parks Sketch 4 Freedom contest invites visitors of all skill levels to submit their sketches developed on site at Franklin D. Roosevelt Four Freedoms Park. The theme of our first contest is the Four Freedoms, in celebration of President Franklin D. Roosevelts pivotal 1941 address. Using a pencil and pad, artists are encouraged to explore the meaning and legacy of the four freedoms freedom of speech & expression, freedom of worship, freedom from want, and freedom from fear and how those freedoms relate to art, expression, the built environment, and life in the 21st century more broadly.
All submissions must be initially developed onsite at Franklin D. Roosevelt Four Freedoms Park. Due to the sensitivity of the untreated granite at the Park, we ask that artists wishing to use paint, watercolor, charcoal, chalk, and other materials that might harm the porous granite, do so offsite after their initial visit to the memorial.
The winner of the contest will receive a $300 gift certificate to Blick Art Materials and a Four Freedoms Park Swag Bag.
The contest will run from Saturday, July 1, 2017 Monday, July 31, 2017. The winner will be announced in September 2017.
