LOS HERMANOS – THE BROTHERS A Musical Celebration of Martin Luther King Jr. Day
Monday, January 19, 2026 4:00 PM Good Shepherd Center
Featuring the Gavilan Brothers:
Aldo López-Gávilan, composer and pianist — described by Chucho Valdés as “simply a genius, a star”
Ilmar Gávilan, violin — Grammy Award–winning violinist and member of the Harlem String Quartet
With Max Zeugner, double bass — Associate Principal, The New York Philharmonic
The program will include original compositions by Aldo Gavilan, including music from the PBS documentary LOS HERMANOS, as well as Ravel’s Sonata for violin and piano, which includes a movement, Blues, inspired by the French composer’s visit to Harlem.
Adding a powerful narrative dimension, the concert will be interspersed with excerpts from the award-winning PBS documentary Los Hermanos, which tells the remarkable story of the Gavilan brothers’ journey from Cuba to the United States—a story of perseverance, artistry, and the enduring bond of family.
