The NY Public Library Roosevelt Island branch manager Kate Fredericoni reports:

Saturday, March 7 | 11:00 AM – 12:00 PM

Most histories of the American Revolution miss a key element: the women. Join renowned historian and author Carol Berkin for a journey through the 1760s and 70s to discover the crucial roles women played as spies, saboteurs, and soldiers. Discover how Independence sparked a radical shift in gender roles and expectations.

Ms Federiconi adds:

Dear Roosevelt Island Community,

I hope you’re all enjoying the first hints of spring! It has been an incredibly vibrant start to 2026, and we are thrilled to keep that energy moving forward with a fresh lineup of programming for March.

Before we dive into the month ahead, I wanted to share a few highlights from a couple of our February programs:

  • Teen Book Club (Feb 11 & 25)
Our Teen Book Club debuted this February! Over two sessions, our local teens gathered for lively discussions of the first volume of Heartstopper by Alice Oseman.
  • Every Happiness: An Author Talk with Reena Shah (Feb 25)
It was a privilege to welcome local author Reena Shah to the library. Reena captivated the audience with a reading of her debut novel, followed by a thoughtful exploration of the themes and experiences that shaped her writing. The session concluded with a lively Q&A, giving neighbors a unique chance to engage with her work firsthand.
  • Blast Off! Astronaut Training! (Feb 27)
The library was buzzing with energy as 40 “recruits” completed their training to become “Certified Superstars.” Led by Mélissa Smith, the program blended history and physical play, featuring the story of Dr. Mae Jemison and ending with a truly intergalactic dance party.

I have attached the complete March Program Guide for your reference. This document includes clickable links to each event’s page on the NYPL website for easy registration and sharing.
