Alex Bores is the NY State Assembly Member from the 73rd AD representing Manhattan’s East Side and a Democratic Party primary candidate to succeed the retiring Jerry Nadler in representing the 12th congressional district that includes Roosevelt Island.
Mr Bores is also a former Roosevelt Island resident and computer engineer who in 2022 spearheaded an initiative to get the Roosevelt Island Tram included in Google Maps.
Mr Bores took exception to a March 14 Saturday Night Live skit
making fun of aerial tramways and stood up for Roosevelt Island residents getting on first to ride our Tram.
According to Mr Bores:
How dare SNL make fun of trams?
Here in New York, we’re proud of the Roosevelt Island tram.
It’s a great way to get to the Incredible Island.
It’s a great view on the East River.
It’s even a good, cheap date spot when you’re growing up in this city, but SNL writers, I get you’re trying to go for a joke, but I’m inviting you to come on the tram with me.
And if you need help finding it, I’m actually the person that got it on Google Maps and programmed it myself, and it still kind of runs out of my laptop.
That’s a story for another day.
So, look on Google Maps, but reach out. Lets ride the tram together.
Roosevelt Island’s a beautiful part of New York 12, and you should spend some more time there.
But, make sure the residents get on first.
Don’t get in their way when they’re trying to ride. .
Here’s the full SNL aerial tramway skit.
