NY State 73rd Assembly District Member Alex Bores represents the East Side of Manhattan. Mr Bores is currently running in the Democratic Party 12th Congressional District Primary, which includes Roosevelt Island, to succeed the retiring Jerry Nadler.

Mr Bores is also a former Roosevelt Island resident and computer engineer who in 2022 spearheaded an initiative to get the Roosevelt Island Tram included in Google Maps.

I spoke to Mr Bores as he was campaigning in front of the Roosevelt Island subway station last night.

According to Mr Bores:

… It’s great to be back on Roosevelt Island. We’re talking to people as they’re coming back on their commutes on what is now the M line, which is a whole other conversation that we need to have.

We’ve been talking about the challenges with the Steam Plant and the lack of notice and how rushed this emergency declaration seems.

And we’ve been talking about the lack of service at the USPS {Post Office} here that I know my predecessor Carolyn Maloney, who’s endorsed me in this race, was a strong advocate for keeping it here. We need to make sure it’s fully staffed and services provided for the residents.

So I will be here frequently throughout the campaign and if I’m so lucky enough as your congress member, and really excited to talk to everyone on the island…

Earlier in the evening, Mr Bores spoke to the Manhattan Community Board 8 annual meeting at Cornell Tech

and brought his own Tram with him courtesy of Julia Roland.

The American Constitution Society is hosting a 12th Congressional District Democratic Party primary forum this evening with these candidates:

As far as I’m aware, Jack Schlossberg, JFK’s grandson, has been the only other candidate to campaign on Roosevelt Island though I’m told that Micah Lasher will be at the Farmers Market this Saturday.

The candidates appeared at this April 15 forum hosted at the 92nd Street Y where Mr Bores addressing the issue of rising sea levels flooding half of Roosevelt Island in the future.

There are efforts underway to have a 12th Congressional District Democratic Party primary forum here on Roosevelt Island. Stay tuned for more info on this as it becomes available.
