Roosevelt Island Only Bank Branch, New York National Bank, May Be Closing

A reader sends in the following message:

A letter has been sent to depositers at NYNB announcing the branch is scheduled to close this June.

This would be a terrible loss for the island since:

It is the only bank here with full service

It serves the island businesses, seniors, disabled and those who cannot leave the island

If the store is vacant RIOC would not be able to rent it.

THE BRANCH MUST BE SAVED OR another bank must be found to take over the site.

Of course, if the New York National Bank branch on Roosevelt Island does close, in the absence of a Master Leaseholder for the RIOC controlled retail premises, the space will probably remain empty for a very long time just like the former Main Street Pizza and Fish stores.
