NYC Emergency Management reports:

From 3 AM Sunday, January 25 through 6 PM Monday, January 26, current forecasts suggest light snowfall rates in the morning, around 0.5–0.75 inches per hour, increasing significantly after noon to 1–2 inches per hour. Overall, 8–12 inches are likely across the metro area. Additional details will be shared tomorrow morning as weather models continue to evolve.   Southern portions of NYC could see slightly lower totals, with more sleet mixing in. As of today, there is also a 30% chance of a worst-case scenario, bringing widespread 14–16 inches across the city.

Dear Roosevelt Island Community:

According to the National Weather Service, there is currently a Winter Storm Watch for our area from 8:00 AM Sunday, January 25, through 1:00 PM Monday, January 26.

Total snow accumulations of 8 to 12 inches are currently expected, with wind gusts of up to 35 mph possible. Snow, sleet, and rain are expected. These conditions may cause significant travel difficulties. Please use mass transit if possible.

Due to the winter storm, there will be No Parking from 501 to 645 Main Street beginning Saturday, January 24, 2026, at 7:00 PM through Tuesday, January 27, 2026, at 7:00 PM.

During this time, free parking will be available for Roosevelt Island residents only, with valid identification, at the Motorgate Parking Garage on a first-come, first-served basis. Motorists are advised they cannot park on the Motorgate roof or in reserve spaces. 

Any vehicle utilizing free snow parking must vacate Motorgate by Tuesday, January 27, 2026, at 12:00 PM. Vehicles remaining after that time will be subject to the normal Motorgate day rate.

Vehicles displaying disabled parking placards may begin parking under the helix as of Saturday at 12:00 PM and must be moved by Tuesday, January 27, 2026, at 12:00 PM, or they will be summoned and towedVehicles that do not have a disabled parking placard that park under the helix will be towed. 

RIOC is closely monitoring the situation and will provide follow-up advisories regarding storm impacts to transportation, island closures, and any additional storm preparations.

Please be advised that the Roosevelt Island Farmers Market will be OPEN tomorrow (1/24) as scheduled in its winter location under the helix. 

During the January 22, 2026 RIOC Board Of Directors meeting, RIOC President B.J. Jones said that RIOC was prepared for Sunday’s snowstorm and RIOC:

… was ready to tackle whatever comes our way this weekend safely.
