The Roosevelt Island Saturday Farmers Market is relocating from Good Shepherd Plaza to their temporary winter home under the Motorgate Helix starting this Saturday, November 29.

According to Farmers Market vendor Israel Wengerd of Wengerd Farms:

The move is necessary to be out of the inclement winter weather.

We have 10 varieties of of local homegrown apples and many other local grown vegetables.

We have been serving the Roosevelt Island community since the 1980’s

The Roosevelt Island Operating Corp (RIOC) reports:

Dear Roosevelt Island Community,

Beginning this Saturday, November 29th, the Farmers Market will relocate to its winter location under the Helix near Motorgate.

In addition, please be advised that the Big Reuse Food Scrap Drop-Off program for community composting is located nearby at Motorgate Plaza from 9:00 AM to 2:00 PM.

Local residents will also be hosting a Haki Compost Collective volunteer orientation this Saturday between 12:00 PM and 1:30 PM. Please stop by to learn how you can support the compost program.

To volunteer, please write to Hakicompost@gmail.com

Enjoy a happy and safe holiday season!

– Team RIOC

The Haki Compost Collective adds:

The all-volunteer Haki Compost Collective is located year round at Motorgate Plaza on Saturdays from 9 am to 2 pm. Community compost programs are important because they return nutrient-rich compost to city soils which helps trees and also captures more rain water during storm events which reduces flooding.
