Roosevelt Island Tipsters reported last Monday evening at about 7 PM:

Looks like the Tram is stuck because of person climbing to the very top of the tower. It’s wild. He keeps going up. There is a helicopter hovering over the Bridge.

The person climbed to the top of the Roosevelt Island Manhattan Tram Tower located at the FDR Drive.

The NYPD and a Tram Mechanic rode to the Tram Tower just below the beam the man was standing on to secure and bring him back down.

According to a NYPD spokesperson, a 20 year old Long Island man climbed to the top of a Roosevelt Island Tram tower and was brought down by officers of the Emergency Services Unit. He was arrested and charged with criminal trespass and reckless endangerment:

On Monday, June 16, 2025, at approximately 1855 hours, police responded to a 911 call of a disorderly male at East 60 Street and York Avenue, within the confines of the 19 Precinct. Upon arrival, officers observed a 20-year-old male on an elevated surface on the Roosevelt Island Tramway. The NYPD’s Emergency Service Unit responded to the location and safely apprehended the individual without further incident. Charges are pending and the investigation remains ongoing….

When asked why he climbed the Roosevelt Island Tram Tower, the man replied:
