The Fifth Annual Roosevelt Island Film Festival screenings are taking place beginning today, June 26 thru Sunday June 29 at the Main Street Theatre & Dance Alliance (548 Main Street).

According to Roosevelt Island Film Festival Founder & President Toni Vitale:

I just want to let you guys know that the festival is this weekend June 26th to the 29th and it’s at the Main Street Theater…

I have feature films, documentary films and short blocks. I have a few residents that have their films in this year. It’s only once a year so this is very special for Roosevelt Island. A lot of people from around the world and filmmakers from New York City come and visit and they screen our films and they represent their films and they just love coming out here. I really love having the community involved. Last year a lot of you attended and I’d like to get more of you to keep coming every year….

… this year is really special because I have three residents involved in the submissions. They submitted their films and we accepted them and we’re screening their films on June 29th. One of them is a student film, one of them is a documentary and the other one is a short film….

…  I just love the community. I hope to see you there. Come say hi to me if you do.

Roosevelt Island resident Susan Cameron

is the writer of Wildflower, a short film being screened Sunday June 29.

Also being shown on Sunday is Auraganic: The Gospel of Tuge about the life and legacy of the late John “Tuge” Palermo a hip hop artist known as “Fat Bible” who grew up on Roosevelt Island.

There will be parties after the screenings at Granny Annies too.
