Our friend at the East River Keeper Instagram page is doing a great job chronicling the various waterborne traffic passing us here on Roosevelt Island. As reported previously, East River Keeper is:

Sitting on #RooseveltIsland like a lighthouse keeper, watching the boats and world float by on the #EastRiver and wondering about their stories…

According to East River Keeper:

Whatever floats your boat. Literally.

Check out this boat — it leaves no wake and skitters across the #EastRiver like a water strider (that bug you see skimming on top of pond water). It’s an EV hydrofoil with “wing” foils mounted beneath the hull to generate lift as the boat accelerates, raising the hull, reducing drag and increasing speed…

Unless it hits some of the debris we see floating by #RooseveltIsland (see the pics).

It’s a Swedish made Candela – smooth in the waves, silent, 100% electric with a range of 57 nautical miles and a top speed of 27 knots. The hydrofoils can retract for shallow waters, and they’re designed to break off if they hit a large object in the water, potentially sparing the boat hull damage.

The dude driving ten and two must be sitting on top of the world.

And not only boats on the East River pass by Roosevelt Island. Human swimmers do too. East River Keeper adds:

Here’s more on the NYC 20 Bridges swim.
