A Rosevelt Island Tipster reported this evening at about 6:45 PM:

16 fire vehicles and thick smoke on Main Street toward the helix as we’re leaving right now. More coming cross the bridge

18 now and more coming on Vernon.

And 30 personnel that we saw.

Still more sirens: at least 10 hook and ladder and four ambulances, but not any indication of what’s happening.

Still more crossing 59th st bridge & the island is lit up with emergency lights.

I’ve never seen so many emergency  vehicles.

Another Tipster a few minutes later:

There’s about 15 to 20 firetrucks and ambulances on Main Street going from Island House all the way to Manhattan Park. And more arriving. There’s a gridlock on Main Street.

I asked the FDNY:

Do you have any information on a fire tonight about 6pm at 560 Main Street Roosevelt Island?

What was the cause? Are there any injuries?
